Gesamtkunstwerk in the 21st Century 

2018-2019 

Personal exploration of poster design for Frank Ocean’s album Blonde.

I was inspired to create a work regarding the (German) concept of gesamtkunstwerk, or “total work of art”, upon collective experiences I had while listening to Frank Ocean’s sophomore album Blonde. The story of how this album came into fruition—as well as the roll-out of the project’s supplementary merchandise—moved me deeply and helped me realize how its total creation was in and of itself a greater work of art. This piece serves to symbolize my aspirations of producing a gesamtkunstwerk in my lifetime.
